Rhodiola also contains antioxidant-rich flavonoids such as catechins and proanthocyanidins. These contribute to central nervous system and brain chemical regulation. Also, evidence suggests that rhodiola has anti-inflammatory properties and can decrease C-reactive protein levels, a marker of inflammation. Rhodiola may protect against neurodegenerative diseases caused by oxidative stress due to its component, salidroside, which decreases apoptosis of neuroblastoma cells.
